Frequently Asked Questions

We offer a wide range of dental services at Ascot Dental, and are always willing to answer any queries you might have about treatments. In the meantime however, we’ve answered some frequently asked questions below, for your convenience. Alternatively, if you’d like to speak to our team, just call our dentistry practice.

Why do people choose sleep dentistry?

The most common reasons are fear or anxiety, a bad previous experience, concern about discomfort or pain (especially if complex treatment is required), or a gag reflex that makes treatment whilst awake difficult.

What are the benefits of implants?

Dental implants are an alternative for:

  • The patient who cannot function comfortably with conventional dentures.
  • The patient who has lost teeth and wants to avoid removable partial dentures.
  • The patient who needs a crown or fixed bridge but doesn’t want to damage his or her adjacent healthy teeth.
  • The person who wants to have the dental solution that is the closest to what Mother Nature created
How long does an implant last?

Implants have remained in patients’ mouths for 30 years or more. We recommend a preventive maintenance program to help insure the long-term success of your implants and teeth.

I broke a tooth – should I come in?

See your dentist as soon as possible. Rinse your mouth using warm water; rinse any broken pieces and save them. If there’s bleeding, apply a piece of gauze to the area until the bleeding stops. Apply a cold compress to the outside of the mouth, cheek, or lip near the broken/chipped tooth to keep any swelling down and relieve pain.

What do you do at my emergency appointment?

The dentist will examine your teeth, take X-rays of your teeth and jaw (if required) and address the cause of your concern. Before any procedure is undertaken we will always discuss all options with you. Our primary goal at this appointment is to alleviate any pain and discomfort. We will always endeavour to provide you with excellent dental care so as to avoid any future emergency appointments from disrupting you and your life.

I lost a filling. What should I do?

Please phone us to schedule an appointment with your dentist. It is important to get the filling replaced before your tooth gets more damaged or you begin to have tooth pain.
